Exhibition "100 years of the national aviation industry"

In 2023 the Republic of Serbia is celebrating a significant jubilee that few countries can boast of - an entire century of the national aviation industry. On this occasion, in the gallery "Ikar" in the House of Aviation in Belgrade, the exhibition "100 years of the national aviation industry" realized by the Aeronautical Museum with a team consisting of curators Ivan Vujić, Nebojša Isailović and Nemanja Glišić was officially opened. The exhibition was opened by the State Secretary in the Ministry of Defense Nemanja Starović in the presence of high-ranking officials, representatives of cultural institutions of the Republic of Serbia, the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Army.

With numerous objects, photographs and documents from the museum's rich collection, the authors tried to show the continuous development and the very rich and long tradition of aircraft production in these areas.
From 1923 until the beginning of World War II, over 1,500 aircraft were produced in six aircraft factories and twenty aircraft component factories, which accounted for more than half of the aircraft in operational use in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The aviation industry was a significant factor in the development of a predominantly agrarian country and opened the way for the conquest of new technologies and their practical application. A special curiosity is the fact that in our country the airplane was produced first, and only then the motor vehicle. Highly educated professionals from the interwar period formed the basis for the continued development of the aviation industry after the war.

In the changed social and political circumstances, airplanes, helicopters and supporting equipment were produced that formed the backbone of the Air Force, sports and commercial aviation, and there were no significant results on the international market. Carried by a long tradition, aviation companies in Serbia preserve the continuity of aircraft production in this area and achieve significant results on the domestic and world markets.

At the ceremony, a commemorative envelope and jubilee stamp were presented, which JP "Pošta Srbije" prepared on the occasion of the centenary of the aviation industry and published as part of the special philatelic edition "Industrial Heritage of Serbia". Director of "Srbijamarka" Adam Sofronijević handed the philatelic edition to State Secretary Starović.

The exhibition lasts until February 19, 2024, it can be seen every working day from 12:00 to 19:00 in the gallery "Ikar" (Kneza Pavla Karađorđevića 3, Zemun), and the entrance is free.
